Jashui Zarate Torres, a rising sophomore at Dominican University, is wrapping up a summer of conducting studies in learning and memory as the recipient of the 2022 Moskal Scholar Award for neuroscience research.

The Moskal Scholars program provides funding to neuroscience students involved in summer research projects, and Torres has been contributing to ongoing student research on memory using sea slugs in the Slug Lab

The largest class of incoming freshman in Dominican University’s history has arrived on campus.

While the final number of new first-year students will not be available until the September census,  more than 630 net deposits have so far been received, said Genaro Balcazar, vice president of enrollment management.

While the number may fluctuate a bit between now and then, it is clear that this will be the university’s largest freshman class, exceeding 2016’s record of 497 students.

After two years away from campus, the Summer Gifted and Talented Program at Dominican University returned this season with more than 30 course offerings for children.

The four-week program, now in its 35th year, wrapped up on July 22 with about 200 students taking part in a wide range of one-week classes focused on science, math, technology and the creative arts.

The program is staffed by Chicago area teachers, many of whom — like the students — return year after year.

Dominican University’s Ministry en lo Cotidiano (MLC) program fellow and political science major Maria Dominguez is featured in the August 2022 edition of U.S. Catholic magazine.

River Forest, IL  – Dominican University’s focus on multicultural education within its nursing program has earned the university an award from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN).

Dominican is the recipient of the 2022 Lectureship Award for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Sustainability in Nursing Education for small/liberal arts colleges. The award is one of AACN’s most prestigious honors.

A desire to help women and raise awareness of domestic violence — particularly within the Latinx community — inspired two Dominican University students to volunteer with a local organization serving families affected by violence.

Since her arrival in River Forest earlier this month, Dominican University’s own Rosie Bea has gained local celebrity status, landing her a feature in Oak Park’s Wednesday Journal.

President Glena Temple and her new pup are profiled in the July 27 edition of the newspaper. In the article, Temple explains that Rosie’s adoption stemmed from seeing the positive impact that therapy dogs had on staff and students when they visited the university during finals week.
