Student Leadership
Students provide vital leadership and pastoral presence in the University Ministry Center, as well as around the university and in the wider community. Whether as part of a year-long commitment or through contributions to a one-time event, our student leaders create engaging and meaningful opportunities to explore faith and spirituality, call our community into commitments of service, solidarity, and justice, lead prayer, guide reflection and sharing, and, following the example of our founder Fr. Samuel Mazzuchelli, O.P., “make school as much like home as possible.”
Because we are Dominican and Catholic, hospitality and welcome, the traditions of our Sinsinawa Dominican mission and heritage, and building interfaith cooperation are central to the work of ministry.
Students are encouraged to discern their gifts, strengths and passions when considering leadership in University Ministry, as there are a variety of ways to get involved. Some of the faith-based leadership development opportunities we offer include:
- Beloved Community: a leadership development and faith formation internship rooted in the faith and traditions African-American communities.
- Ministry en lo Cotidiano: an internship program serving and celebrating Latin@ communities.
- Waters Internship: positions in the areas of retreats and vocation, faith justice, interfaith dialogue, graphic design and outreach, and liturgical ministry.
Students with a particular passion or general leadership interest are encouraged to meet with a University Ministry staff person to discuss leadership possibilities that would be right for you.
