RN–BSN Application and Admission Criteria

Online applications are accepted year round for admission to the RN–BSN program in the fall.

  • The application deadline is April 30
Applying to Dominican University
  • Complete the student online admission application.
  • Students must be fully admitted to the University prior to the start of the semester for which you are applying.
  • Request that official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended be sent to the Office of Admission.
  • Submit a copy of your associate degree in nursing: Regardless of the program, it must be from an accredited institution to qualify for an online nursing degree
  • Submit a copy of your current license as a registered nurse: All registered nurses must hold a current, unencumbered nursing license within the state they work.
  • Proof of work: Applicants must submit a verification of work from their past/current employer(s).
  • Background check: Because graduates of online programs care for patients and handle sensitive documents and data, you are required to pass a background check and drug screening prior to admission.
General admission requirements
  • A minimum of 2.75/4.00 cumulative GPA from all colleges and universities attended.
  • A current, unencumbered RN license.
  • 83 designated semester credit hours documented by college transcripts are earned in courses with a grade of C- or higher.
  • Two letters of recommendation: one from a supervisor and one from a clinical instructor.  New graduates can have two letters from nursing instructors.
  • Completion of all prerequisite coursework prior to enrolling in Dominican University’s nurse cohort courses and/or an approved academic plan finalized with the RN to BSN Director.
  • Personal statement that addresses “Why I want to complete my BSN even though I am an RN.”
Prerequisites
  • Human Anatomy and Physiology I (or equivalent)
  • Human Anatomy and Physiology II (or equivalent)
  • Elementary Statistics (or equivalent)
  • General Microbiology (or equivalent)
  • 9 credit hours: Communication (composition and speech)
  • 9 credit hours: Social and Behavioral Sciences (psychology, sociology and lifespan development)
  • 9 credit hours: Humanities and Fine Arts (at least one of each)
  • 6 credit hours: Natural Sciences (chemistry and biology)
