Convocation, Caritas Veritas Symposium & Community Celebration 2022
Convene, Study & Celebrate – Tuesday, September 20, 2022
As we begin a new academic year and welcome the largest first-year class in our history, we gather as a community in the Dominican tradition to study and celebrate our collaboration with one another. This year, Academic Convocation will open our day followed by a robust collection of some of Dominican’s best thinking on collaborative relationship at the Caritas Veritas Symposium. We will conclude our day with a Community Celebration breaking bread, listening to good music, and building relationship with one another in the heart of our campus on the Quad. The schedule, in brief, is the following:
9:30 a.m. Academic Convocation (Procession line-up begins at 9 a.m.)

Collaborative Relationship – A Theme for the Caritas Veritas Symposium
In their constitution, the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa say, “at the heart of ministry is relationship.” With their sponsorship, Dominican University strives to be “a diverse, relationship-centered community.” Our mission to prepare students, pursue truth, give compassionate service, and participate in the creation of a more just and humane world is lived out in a fabric of social connections. This year’s Caritas Veritas Symposium focuses on a particular kind of relationship, namely collaborative.
The Dominican University community was invited to consider the causes and conditions for development of collaborative relationships. What are our ideals, and what have we witnessed in practice? What is possible even when circumstances are challenging or difficult? And so we ask:
- How do you collaborate with others in the pursuit of truth?
- How are relationships, marked by compassion, at the heart of our learning, teaching, research, and service?
- What partnerships are you building for the creation of a more just, humane and sustainable world?
- How do your collaborative relationships enhance the resilience and sustainability of your work and our world?
All members of the Dominican University community--students, staff, faculty, alumnae and trustees alike--are invited to reflect on these questions from the perspective of their lives within their disciplines, professions, cultures, and social locations.
