Sculpture (Minor)

The sculpture minor investigates the structural and spatial possibilities of three dimensions. By examining and questioning the interplay of form, material, technique and content, a conceptual understanding of sculpture develops over the course of the minor.

Students complete 18 credit hours in the sculpture minor: four sculpture and ceramics electives and two art history electives. Topics and ideas covered include process, site, installation, soft vs. hard sculpture, and the object in relation to the body. Traditional and non-traditional materials and techniques, such as woodworking, mold-making and assemblage, are investigated. Demonstrations of techniques and processes are balanced with lectures, discussion, critique, and lab time. In addition to courses in sculpture, students in the major will expand their breadth of knowledge by completing the core art requirements.
